Are your patients not holding their adjustments well? One possibility might be that they are not getting the proper nutrition. Through the use of a nutrition-focused physical exam, evidence-based screening tools, biochemical analysis and functional assessments, participants will learn how to identify nutritional imbalances and correct these imbalances with the use of foods.

This presentation will review commonly used chiropractic adjusting procedures as taught in Palmer's technique curriculum. We often get into a rut utilizing procedures we like to do instead of what is best for the patient. In this presentation we will reintroduce some methods of adjusting that you may have forgotten. We will look at how they are sometimes done incorrectly and discuss ways to improve their delivery while reducing risk to both the patient and the chiropractor.

This lecture provides an introduction to McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), a system of assessment, classification, treatment & prevention of musculoskeletal disorders that is safe, reliable, valid, predictive and evidence based. The assessment incorporates repeated test movements in various planes and static positions to determine the direction in which a patient needs to move and with how much force to begin (based on centralization of symptoms and changes to obstructed movement). This can be especially important to a chiropractor as it not only helps improve safety but it can also help validate the direction of the adjustment. By determining a directional preference, there is a greater likelihood that a patient’s pain will reduce in a short time period. This can allow a chiropractor to introduce active care rehabilitation earlier in the patient’s treatment, which can demonstrate even further value to third party payers. With patients that are in too much pain or have contraindications to being adjusted, McKenzie Method offers safe and effective treatment protocols. There is also far less physical stress to a chiropractor incorporating McKenzie Method in comparison to other spinal or extremity techniques. This helps to protect a chiropractor’s shoulders, low back, wrists and thumbs. McKenzie is the largest spine care referral network in the world, of which there are now 130 chiropractors included.

A doctor is sought by the vulnerable, by the burdened, by the pained. We often meet people at their most fragile and it is our job to help them rebuild, to become resilient. To that end we must be deliberate communicators, encouraging self-efficacy and dispelling harmful myths, while teaching patients through anecdote and anatomy lessons just how resilient they are. Join us as we discuss the science of resilience, bust myths, and do some word-smithing for the good of the patient.

Lyme disease is a significant health problem particularly in endemic areas throughout the world. Infectious Borrelia burgdorferi, a bacterial spirochete, is transmitted through the bite of several tick species including Ixodes scapularis. If left untreated, Lyme disease can lead to serious sequalae including arthritis, Lyme carditis, and meningitis. In this presentation we will discuss the history, etiology, and host immune response to Lyme disease followed by a clinical discussion and case study describing symptoms that could present in the chiropractic office.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are among the most common and debilitating conditions in Western Society and the leading case of disability worldwide. Diagnostic and treatment costs are skyrocketing with little evidence of improved outcomes. The costs in terms of human suffering is immeasurable. A different direction is needed regarding how society takes care of MSD. The lack of reliable and validated diagnoses is the heart of the problem along with lack of standardization and quality of service oversight. This lecture summarizes the current problems that exist in health care delivery of MSD in addition to a clinical solution. Data from a Fortune 500 pilot project case study will be presented. The results not only transformed how the company addresses health care for their employees but has generated extreme interest from other organization seeking a value-based care system to deal with MSD. Chiropractors are in a unique position to play a lead role in changing MSD health care delivery with a reliably sound assessment approach, standardization and real-time quality assurance.

Research has shown that positive emotions and interventions can bolster health, achievement, and resilience, and can buffer against depression and anxiety. While considerable research in neuroscience has focused on disease, dysfunction, and the harmful effects of stress and trauma, very little is known about the neural mechanisms of human flourishing. In this session, we will examine new research that will help us to understand how the brain enables human flourishing while considering the scientific study of strengths that enable individuals and communities to flourish and thrive.

This session for the chiropractor is designed to improve practical skills in diagnostic imaging by using a quiz format based on a series of radiographic "unknowns". This program will also review clinical decision making in diagnostic imaging in chiropractic. After the participants view a series of diagnostic imaging "unknowns", the cases will be extensively reviewed for diagnostic accuracy. The presentation will also include clinical decision making for diagnostic imaging recognizing that these decisions are not typically black and white, but contextual to clinical circumstances. The latitude needed by clinicians to navigate the "shades of gray" encountered in clinical practice related to the use of diagnostic imaging will be discussed with a panel of radiologists and clinicians.

You have taken all the classes, but the rules have changed again! Late last year, CMS and the local carriers changed the documentation rules and regulations for Medicare. See how these changes are being implemented in all carriers of insurance reimbursement. These significant changes will impact the chiropractic office and the way you practice! Dr. Mario Fucinari, is uniquely qualified as one of the few instructors still in full-time practice! Dr. Fucinari is a member of the Carrier Advisory Committee for Medicare, a Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO), Certified Medical Compliance Specialist (MCS-P), and a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP®). This class is designed for everybody; doctors, staff and billers will gain useful information.
